An archive in progress, Corporeal aims to gather experiences of embodiment from all walks of life.

What is embodiment?

The mandate of Corporeal is to host work that explores, explains, and/or troubles our experiences of embodiment; that is, the having of a body. How being embodied, being held and perceived in your body, colours the way you live and are received in the world.

Corporeal and en*gendered aim to facilitate healthy and safe exploration of embodiment related to disability, age, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and more.

Editors work on crip time, which means we work when we can and extend that same respect to our artists.

Submission guidelines:

Pieces must be on theme - we take our mandate of hosting work that explores, explains, questions, and troubles our experiences of embodiment seriously.

We are open to poetry, prose, fiction, non-fiction, and visual or visually representable art.

Corporeal aims to facilitate healthy and safe exploration of embodiment, particularly the experiences of overlooked bodies. As such, we will not be home to hate, discrimination, hurtful commentary, or graphic depictions of sexual violence.

All submissions must be tagged with applicable content warnings. In particular, the editors ask that you flag sexual violence, child abuse, disordered eating, self harm, suicidal ideation, and any discussion of emesis (vomiting). Not including relevant tags is grounds for immediate rejection. Repeated offenses will result in a permanent ban.

Submissions or submission components that have been created, compiled, edited, or are otherwise reliant on large language models for their polish or existence are disqualified.

All work we publish must include alt text. If you’re submitting artwork it’s helpful if you include a visual description in the original submission. Artist statements about visual art are encouraged but not required.

Third person author/artist biographies are encouraged but not required.

Please use the name you should be addressed by (we don’t need your legal anything) and do not include your physical address.

All submissions, inquiries, and comments should be sent to corporeallitmag@gmail.com.
